Assignment 1: Fire on Malborough Street 22 July 1975

Photographer: Stanley J. Foreman

Source: BBC.CO.UK

This is an image of a woman and a young girl falling to their death jumping out of their building in a tragic fire. I first came across this image on a research project back in High School, it is such a terrifying photo that left me speechless after looking at it. This was the image that came to mind when we got told to find an image. The most memorable part of this image is not only it captured how helplessly the woman must felt in the fire that jumping out of the building was the only chance that they might survive. But the story behind it of a fireman's heroic effort who tried to grab them had been just seconds away from saving the lives of both. Life is so fragile that every second of it counts.
